The importance of a good domain name in Nigeria cannot be understated in the blogging world. A good domain name can make or break a blogger. Thus, the emphasis on it must be made. However, it’s one thing to buy a good domain name, and it’s another to host it on the appropriate web hosting profile.

It’s no doubt that Nigeria remains one of the countries with the most number of bloggers. It’s so competitive here and the web hosting companies / domain registrars, which are usually offered by the same company. Due to the high demand for domain names and hosting, Nigerians have been blessed with a plethora of web hosting companies and the competition has helped so far. Some even offer domain name registration as low as ₦96.

Without much ado, here are my list of the top 5 domain registrars and web hosting companies in Nigeria

If you want a company to buy a domain name from and host your website, Domainking will do. I won’t advise you use them for a company with much traffic though. In fact, I won’t suggest you use Domainking for websites that handles millions of traffic in a day but I’ve been using them for my blog for a year and things have been smooth so far. Aside from website design that will remind you of the 1999 days, Domainking still offers a good service and good customer care support for their customers.

Dedicated Servers from Liquid Web

Closely competing with Domainking is Whogohost. It has a better user interface and the website looks more superb. At sight, I bet many will prefer Whogohost. Aside from hosting and name registration they offer services like Email marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Branding, Web Designing and so on. They also have a good customer service.

This is another Nigerian-based web hosting company that is closely on par with Domainking and Whogohost. Their services are a little more expensive than the two afore-mentioned companies but many people have praised their services and support. In fact, if I’ll host a website with so much traffic, I will count on Smartweb.

They offer .NG registration at a competitive rate. Their services are cheap and like the rest they accept payment in Naira. Many have complained about their services though. If you want to buy a domain name, I’ll advice you use them but for hosting? No way.

Located at 4 ASSBIFI Road, Alausa CBD, Ikeja is one of Nigeria’s own web hosting companies who has been able to spread their tentacles along the shores of West Africa. They’ve been around for a while although they are not getting the recognition of the likes of Whogohost, Domainking or Smartweb. But nonetheless, they are doing fine. Their hosting plans offer a competitive price and their services are good.
