It is now possible for you to save videos for offline viewing on Youtube using the Youtube app on your phone, which would ensure that you can download videos once and watch them multiple times without burning your precious data each time you watch the video.

Being the biggest video-sharing website, we have all enjoyed its services by either watching videos on it or uploading our own videos to the website. The videos on Youtube provide different kinds of values to viewers. People watch videos on Youtube for entertainment, education, how-to’s and stuffs like that. It has even kind of become a search-engine by itself because you can always search and get to view videos concerning anything in life. You would easily find videos on learning how to cook one kind food or another, learning how to play a musical instrument, learning how to dance, musical videos, movies and a host of other things.

As much as we enjoy Youtube though, there’s this major issue with using it, especially in developing or under-developed countries where the cost of data is still very high and of low quality compared to what obtains in the developed world – Videos eat up data. Therefore, a lot of people would either not visit the site at all or only visit it for the most important things that they need. Consequently, there has always been the cry for Youtube videos to become available offline.

However, I was surprised when my three (3) year old daughter, an avid Youtube user (lol. Yes, she is. She watches lots of cartoons and children musicals on Youtube) kept burning my data with all the different videos she was watching on Youtube using my phone and then I took a look at the screen and alas! I saw the magic button to make the video available offline. Words cannot describe how I felt and I quickly tapped on the icon to save the video for offline viewing, which has started saving me lots of data already.

To save a video for offline viewing, simply do the following:

  1. Open the app on your phone.
  2. Tap on a video to watch.
  3. Tap on the “Download for offline viewing” icon, which is on the extreme right-hand side of the vote up and vote down icons.

To view your offline videos

  1. Tap on the user icon to open the “Account” tab of the Youtube app.
  2. Now, tap on “Offline Videos” to view your offline Youtube videos.

That’s it. Now you can easily save Youtube videos to be watched offline without having to burn your precious and expensive data watching the same video over and over. Simply download once and watch as many times as you wish. Enjoy!
