At one point or another, you must have tried to access a website and you get hit by an error message originating from the site itself or an error message generated by the web browser saying “Website not available” or “This web page is not available” and a host of other messages depending on the browser that you are using.
A few weeks ago, the almighty Facebook website couldn’t be loaded by users in Nigeria and was showing the message
Sorry, something went wrong.
We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.
That’s an error message generated by the site itself and not by the web browser because it could not reach the site at all.
There are lots of reasons why a website may go down. This include but not limited to the following reasons
1. Your internet connection is off. If you are not connected to the internet, then there is no link between your device (phone, tablet or computer) and the website that you are trying to visit, so any request sent out by the web browser on your device cannot reach the website at all, not to talk of loading the website.
2. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be the culprit. There are times that you try to visit a website through one ISP and you are unable to reach the website, but making use of another ISP to connect at that same time would load the website. This is an issue that I’ve personally experienced at different times. So, the next time you connect to the internet with your Spectranet modem and you are unable to load a particular website while other websites are loading, simply, try connecting with your Airtel, Etisalat, Glo or MTN SIM before concluding that the website is actually down.
